1. Teachers
I Guess I had it good these last three years because looking back those teachers were awesome in comparison to the teachers I have now. My old Science teacher while somewhat strict* was a better teacher by far than my new teacher. My old teacher Mrs. Wilson actually taught and made sure we knew what we were doing. My new teacher Dr. Rudy doesn’t really teach, its more like educational supervision. (if you can even call it that**) She will hand us papers and then go and grade papers from other classes. Not much teaching involved there. If it wasn’t for the friends at my table I would be failing that class. This applies for pretty much all the classes. English with Mr. Johnson for my Freshmen and Sophomore year were great. I didn’t really like Mrs. Williams at first but she was organized and compelled to teach us something new and useful. This year we have a teacher that is teaching us material public school probably haven’t used for 15-20 years, seriously***. It is literally a step backwards from what we were learning last year.
In all justice there are some good teachers this year: Mrs. Wilcoxson, Mrs. Wingerd, Mr. Baker****, and Mrs.Sutton(meh)
*Over these 4 years I have grown to like the classes with “strict” teachers, Its somewhat weird
**The other day I brought a 2 liter of mountain Dew into class and drank some of it during class. People eat lunch in there, talk all the time, listen to music, openly copy, and she approves of these actions when she sees them
*** besides this material is stuff we learned 3-4 years ago
****there is some room for improvement, he just needs to stop bending for the girls, more on that under point two
2. Class Conflict
Last year was ok but this year its unbearable. Ever since the beginning of High School the girls in my class decided that they didn’t like any of the guys in our class. And out of that spawned a hidden hate on their side. Ill admit that all the guys are/were to dumb to notice it but it has been there since day 1*. Most of those feelings were suppressed till this year. It has come out as particularly annoying satirical perspective on feminism that is also obnoxiously loud**. I tried my hand at giving advice but that was a really ignorant thing to do looking back. Now I am on the list of people they hate***. They strive for “equality” but I am not going to turn into a homosexual to please them. Ill just keep it the way it is and let them find out what the real world thinks on their own****.
*Most of the girls didn’t notice it either. Also it is to be noted that this was only decided by a few of the girls.
**Once again, It has only come from two class members, but when you have a class of sixteen thats 13% of the class.
***Given the situation, I am somewhat proud.
****It certainly isn’t the slander they spew.
I forgot to tell you about how Mr. Baker was bending for the girls and how that is compromising his teaching. After a memory verse quiz a month or two ago the “girls” were complaining that the tests were too hard. I thought they were hard too, but I wasn’t going to complain. I did bad on the quiz too, but I wasn’t going to complain. This is your Senior year of High School Grow up*. No one is going to baby you in college, get used to it**. Long story short, after a 15 minute long discussion and one girls tears they manipulated him into guilt and convinced him that the verse quizzes were too hard. It has been a few months and we still have yet to receive another quiz, and I am convinced that there won’t be another one for the rest of the year. The same thing happened went he told us to turn in our binders after we had organized them, after receiving mixed reaction from the “girls” he kept changing the rules to make things easier, but they just got more confusing. If he didn’t listen to them things would be better.
*I found it really, really hard to not cuss writing that.
**This is part of my belief, I think that My bible teacher is a great college bible teacher (yeah he is a college teacher) simply because he doesn’t have to deal with this kind of crap.
Cheaters
Cheating has become a real problem in our school, and none of the teachers know how to spot it or how to prevent it. And obviously they won’t be able to stop it until they can figure that out. I have seen one person cheat twice and I haven’t done anything. I don’t want to until I can figure out how to rat them out and have no repercussions*. I recently changed one of my teachers screensaver to “Charles cheats” but I don’t think it will help anything. I think I will approach the teacher of the class I saw him cheat in, with a few friends who also saw him cheating and we will tell the teacher, maybe. The whole situation has made doing pretty much anything school related aggravating. Seeing how you struggle to make a high 80 and they don’t have to try and end up making a high 90. The main reason I’m mad is because the teachers could swiftly solve this problem if they tried. Four things,
- Look around during tests, don’t just grade papers. You now know there are cheaters, be aware and alert. We already know that they are not going to see the problems with this ethically, so its up to you to catch and prosecute the cheaters.
- I hate to push stereotypes, but they work in our school. Cameron is not going to cheat, ever. The people that are trendy, and try to hard to be social are the ones you need to look out for**. Solomon (proven cheater), Erika, John Allen, etc…
- Be aware while grading, and be aware of their track record. If someone has always made 30’s and he suddenly made a 99 somethings wrong***. If Charles is sitting by Rachel and they both got the same answers, something is wrong, and going back to point #2 Rachel probably isn’t the one to blame.
- Work out a truly anonymous way to have people tell the teachers who is cheating. Seriously, if there was a way I could tell without anyone knowing I would have, multiple times.
*I have considered going up during the test and simply telling the teacher, but knowing how naive some teachers are they would jump up immediately and go grab them, which would in-directly point me out and label me a rat.
**Also there are the people who “don’t care”
***Or they finally decided to study, be careful, and don’t accuse before you have proof.
In conclusion, I think that this year is perfectly horrible and I cannot wait till its over. I was comfortable last year and if this year were the same then I would be worried about life after high school. With these problems I am canceling out those worries and wanting to get out of here soon. I used to have desires to make my school better, but now I am switching gears. I simply want out before the structure collapses. Ill look back one day and realize that my thoughts are somewhat over dramatic but for now I think they fit. Where I go now, I don’t really know.
